This is the first time I’ve ever seen this actually happen in person so it was pretty neat for me.
I was sitting on my bed, playing with my cat when she leapt off and ran towards the door. I looked to see what she was doing and she was chasing a small lizard around the room. Next thing I know, she’s swatting at a flopping, pale looking thing on the floor. I took it away from her and it turns out it was the lizard’s tail.
The tail kept flopping around on its own for about five minutes. It was kinda creepy.
The lizard itself hid in a corner. I grabbed it with some tissue and put it outside. It’s probably too traumatized to come back in the house so I’m sure that’s where it wanted to be anyway.

There are a lot of them here in the house in the Philippines too. The photos above are from Singapore. They don't seem to be doing too good a job with the mosquitoes, or maybe there are just too many mosquitoes and I should find some more of them and bring them into the house. ^_^

I believe they call them butike' (boo-tee-khe).I always thought they were cool.. i liked them, they kept the mosquito population down inside the house when I lived in the Philippines. And if you ever tried catching one, their tails fell of on their own… its as if they do it on purpose.

Eh. I worry about my cat getting sick from eating it. I don't know if either of them have eaten a lizard while I was out of the house but when I'm there I try to shoo the lizards away. It is fun to watch my cat go nuts chasing one around though!

You do realize you're only making yourself look foolish by pointing out the obvious don't you? The wording of the post makes it obvious that I know the tail comes off but had never seen it in action before. Also, I'm an American. Don't you think I've seen enough Geico commercials to know what a gecko is? I'm learning that writing simply is best to appeal to more people (i.e. non-native English speakers).

Wow! That is super cool! You should let your cat eat the tail up. High in nutrients! Cats are obligate carnivores anyway! :)))) My cat does it all the time….it's so amazing, they are so fast at that. I pity the lizards though…..I sometimes try to warn them by talking to them…(er, yeah, then I realise Im no Dolittle) then, I scare them to run away before my Manja catches sight of them. She's eaten so many lizards that my flat now has those funny teeny bugs on the wall. No fun.It's a good thing that lizards have that reflex action on dropping their tail. It'll grow back, dont worry.Oh, I think Americans call them geckos, but here in Singapore, we call them lizards…..no matter what the size, they are lizards. Just to let the Dude know that Brad knows his local lingo. 🙂
