This artfully rendered version of Pegasus, the mythological flying horse, was created by students (I imagine the art majors) from the University of Santo Tomas and is on display in Gateway mall in Cubao, Manila.
I thought it would be fitting to post this today, as a scheduled post, since I’ll be flying myself, likely somewhere above Alaska or the nearby Pacific Ocean when this goes live.
Fare the well, Philippines. I’ll write a longer post about my final impressions of the Philippines later.

When I got to the immigration counter at JFK, the guy asked me how many days I'd been outside the US. I said… “I dunno, how many days is in 2 years and 3 months?” He was surprised and I told him my wife is a foreign national. After that he smiled and we joked around a bit… then he stamped my passport with an “admitted” seal and told me to have a nice day. That was new. I didn't get passport stamps the last time I went in and out of the US.

The 3rd world mentality was annoying. That's true. It was interesting to see how other people viewed the world though.

I lost count on how many months/years that you've lived abroad so it should be interesting to see NYC through your eyes. You always tell it like it is! Good luck with school and work and wherever life leads you.

it's a third world country. Although, you might adjust to not having all the modern conveniences ready at hand, after a while, you might lose interest with the third world mentality.

Had to change our plans. Things will probably work out better this way. NYC isn't another country, but there's plenty interesting here too. I'm sure we'll really enjoy it, once my wife follows on after me.

Yup. Left and went back to the US. Had to make a change to our plans. Just makes more sense to move in another direction right now. It was an interesting 4 months. I'm in NYC right now at my mom's apartment. My wife is still in the Philippines taking care of her sick father, for now.
