Hidden Catholic prayer beads in Walmart products
A few weeks ago, I picked up a drain snake from Walmart. We prefer using them to dumping harsh chemicals down the drain. We’re trying to be more environmentally conscious, and we figure it’s probably better for our health and the health of our pets than Drano fumes. Yesterday, I finally opened the box. I…

Optimum has competition in the Bronx now and I dropped them for Verizon FiOS
Does a NETGEAR AC5300 Nighthawk X8 work with Verizon FiOS? Short answer: yes, on the 300/300 plan, it works perfectly and gets max DL/UL speeds over WiFi. After the Verizon modem was activated by the service technician, I plugged in the Netgear router, and it picked up a new IP address and DNS settings after…

Thumper’s Ashes
Losing Artuso recently had me thinking about Thumper’s ashes. Thumper was a big part of our lives. She was a part of us and now she’s gone. It has been almost two years and it’s still painful to think about how she’s no longer with us, though it isn’t as wrenching as it was when…

A shout out to my buddy Artuso. RIP.
It’s been a little over two weeks since Artuso passed away. Like Thumper before him, he passed away from cancer. He had tumors in his back-right leg that eventually broke the skin and were causing him a lot of pain. Except for his favorite Greenies treats, he stopped eating. Then he stopped using his hammock.…

Liberal elites and “right-wing populists”
“I think right-wing populists hate the ‘liberal elite’ more than economic elites because they’ve grabbed all the jobs where you get paid to do something that isn’t just for the money – the pursuit of art, or truth, or charity”, notes David Graeber, an anthropologist whose ideas helped shape the Occupy movement. “All they can…

An old missing cat poster I created in Singapore
We were looking through old photos on my wife’s old laptop a few days ago and we found this poster that I made when we lived in Singapore. 10 years ago, I posted this missing cat poster around Pasir Ris in Singapore. We had been feeding this cat below an HDB there for a few…

What an official absentee ballot for Bronx County, US looked like for the Nov 2020 General Election
Just in case anyone was curious, this is what an official absentee military ballot looked like for residents of Bronx County, New York City, for the 2020 general election. I wound up not using it. I went to the polling station and voted in person. I was doing some house cleaning, found it, and thought…

Birthday Card from NYC Relief – a volunteer service organization
I received this card from the people at New York City Relief for my birthday. It was a nice gesture that I appreciated. New York City Relief is an organization that tries to connect people in need with essential services. I spent some time volunteering with them in late 2019 and early 2020, before the…

Trying out Fallout 76
I got burned out playing Destiny 2. I hit the wall when they had the power weapons requirement as part of the last Iron Banner quest. It forces people to abandon the game mode and fight over a power weapon ammo spawn that happens once every few minutes instead, 3-4 times a match, tops. It…

Sugar, sugar
I remember watching this as a kid. In “The Big Bang Theory”, the guys always make fun of Archie comics but I don’t really remember much about them anymore except that they used to be on the shelf by the registers in grocery stores. If I can find some older comics for free I guess…
