I just can’t get enough of those damn fried chicken wings and drumsticks! I don’t know how they make them, but they come out so crispy and delicious that I don’t mind that the spicy ones are burning my face off. I just keep eating them! They also come in soy & garlic flavor, which is great.

I’ve been gradually getting my wife around to all of the places I want to show her here in NYC that I already know about and Boka Bon Chon finally came up on the list. We were in the mood for something Asian and we were in the neighborhood, so we went on in.
Besides the wings, which are an absolute must if you ever go to this place, we got the kimchi bi bim bob and an order of beef bul go gi. The servings are generous. Maybe we were hungry, or it was just particularly good yesterday but we cleaned our plates and stripped the bones.

Then we saw a food truck. A bright yellow food truck with a delicious scent coming from it. It turned out to be “Wafels and dinges,” which sells different types of waffles with a variety of toppings, including one called a “WMD” and, gross as it sounds to me, waffles with bacon or pulled pork.

We were feeling the food we’d just eaten, so we got one and shared it. It was incredibly good! I’m looking forward to the next excuse we can find to eat at this food truck again. =)
For a Sunday afternoon, this was a great meal. I love NYC.
Thanks for the clarification, Marie.

I've lived in a lot of places where I kept saying I was going to get around to doing things and never did. Then I moved and now the opportunity is gone.

Hmm, very interesting on the spaghetti incident. Haha, a little music humour there.I also have not been to the Met though I think my sister has been. There are a lot of places I've not been to in NY and it saddens me (like the Cherry Blossom Festival in Brooklyn is one of those things every year I swear we'll do). I know I keep saying we'll get to it and we really should because you bring up a scary but true possibility. I did hear about that poster.

The sauce was sweet. You should be scared. It was terrifying. =) It's just served with ground hamburger in it over noodle spaghetti. It's nothing special, really. My wife says they don't put much effort into spaghetti because it's typically a kid's dish.I've been to the Guggenheim twice. It's worth it. =) Don't feel bad though. I've been in and out of NYC many times over the years and I've never been up the Empire State Building. I never went up the trade towers either. Guess I better get crackin' before more stuff blows up. You heard about that al-Qaeda poster saying something like “Coming Again to New York City Soon” that was posted on an Egyptian terrorist site?

The actual spaghetti had sugar? or the sauce was really sweet? I'm confused yet intrigued. But mostly scared. What do they serve the spaghetti with?I have not been to the Guggenheim myself yet which is embarrassing. My sister and I have it on our list of things to do. Maybe this year!

My wife is adjusting quickly. I can tell she wishes she had more time to go out and explore, but having to work long hours is the nature of the capitalist beast.I wish I had time to do things over Spring Break, but I have 3 days filled with appointments and about 600 pages of reading to do, plus a paper to write. We will probably find time to go out at least twice, though, to hit up museums or something. Maybe the Guggenheim. That could be fun. We haven't finished seeing the stuff in the Met, though. It's such a big museum!I tend to not like sweet stuff mixed with savory foods. =) I'll pass on the chicken and waffles. You reminded me of how, in the Philippines, they make their spaghetti sweet, like it has sugar in it. I hated it.

Good to hear you are both doing well and very good to hear that your wife got a new job. I hope things go well for her.I also hope you two at least get to do a few things fun over Spring break! How are your classes this semester? No worries on bian dang. Actually, they have this thing that I don't think is on the menu – you can ask them for a “porken” or the dish where they sell you a piece of chicken and a piece of pork over rice. It's the same price as getting the chicken meal too.Does that mean no chicken and waffles then? I can understand how the sweet and savory be a bit strange but then again, I am the weird who eats cinnamon raisin bagels with cream cheese and lox. Heh.

Yup. We're doing pretty good. We've been really busy. I overloaded myself with classes this semester and my wife has a new job that she's trying to learn. You know how it goes. I was hoping I'd get a break over Spring Break, but, like last year, I have a lot of class work that I'll have to use those days for.Double frying? Hmmm. That doesn't sound very healthy. I don't suppose it'll stop me from going though. It's too good! The Bian Dang looks pretty good. I'll be sure to try it out if we ever see one. Thanks for the tip!I don't think I would get a waffle unless it was sweet. The idea of savory foods on top of a sweet waffle just makes my stomach twist.

Hi, it's been a while! I trust you and your wife are doing well.re bon chon's crispiness – I believe it may be on account of double frying goodness/madness.Ah! Wafel and Dinges…been a while since I've had their wafels. Unfortunately, a lot of the trucks were shooed away from the area and surrounding areas where we work in midtown which is completely ridiculous. In any event, we haven't eaten had a good food truck adventure in about well over a year.Just the other day I found the bian dang truck and it was like seeing an old friend: http://www.biandangnyc.com/Anyway, as for the wafel and dinges, I've had the pulled pork wafel. It was okay. The watermelon pickle/cucumber on top was fresh and crunchy but the colesaw was meh. It was not the horrible mess I expected it to be but decent. What I really enjoyed that one time was the liege wafel topped with dulce de leche, belgian chocolate syrup and strawberries. So rich and evil…

My wife has eaten at the Bon Chon in the Philippines and she says the soy & garlic fried chicken tastes exactly the same. According to Bon Chon's website (http://www.bonchon.com/?page_id=14) the same company does indeed own both establishments.
